Head Coach Rodney Lossow

Became South’s Head Football Coach in February 2017….. Third season as South Head Coach…..Served as an assistant coach with South High since the Fall of 2014….. Was Head Football Coach at Roosevelt High School for 18 years…..Has 79 career wins entering the 2019-20 season, which is 11th most all-time in Minneapolis Football History (He is tied for 247th place in the State with four other coaches)…..Also has been Head Softball Coach, Head Gymnastics Coach, Head Girls Soccer Coach and Head Badminton Coach in Minneapolis throughout his 27 years working in the District…..Taught Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education for 27 years in the Minneapolis Public Schools. He currently teaches Adapted Physical Education at South High School and Roosevelt High School.

Assistant Coach Ernest Sutton

Third season as an Assistant Head Coach at South. Will serve as Offensive Coordinator…..Coached at the University of Northwestern St. Paul, focusing on linebacker corps…..Coach two-time all-conference, COSIDA Academic All-American linebacker Ben Greener…..In 2016, helped coach UNW to its first NCAA DIII playoff berth….. Before UNW, was on staff at Greenville College in Illinois from 2008-10, where he worked with the running backs and kick returners with the team winning the UMAC South title with a 7-3 record…..Under his tutelage, Anthony Ambers was named the UMAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2009; amassing just over 1,500 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. Ambers 157 yards rushing per game was second in the Nation in all of DIII…..Named the Head Track coach at South High School in 2018…..Formerly served as Head Track Coach at Edison where his girl’s teams won three State Class A titles……Sutton holds a B.A. and has completed coursework towards his Masters of Arts in Education degree…..He works as a behavior specialist at Northeast Middle School…..Became South’s Head Track Coach in the Spring of 2019.

Assistant Coach Ernest Tucker

 Third season as an assistant coach at South…..Serves as the Defensive Coordinator…..From Cleveland Ohio, graduated in 2006…..Attended Vermillion Community College and started for two years at running back…..Won National Junior College Championship first year…..Graduated with degree in Elementary Education and Communication from the University of Minnesota-Morris…..Two year letter winner…..Coached three seasons at Roseville Area High School.

Assistant Coach Cedric McKinley

Third season as an Assistant Varsity/JV Football Coach, working with the lineman on both sides of the ball…..will be the defense coordinator for the JV…..coached at Roosevelt High School in the past…..Played High School Football in Demopolis, Alabama. Attended the University of Minnesota on a Football Scholarship…..Played a couple of seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings……He joined the staff of South High School in the Fall of 2016.

Assistant Coach Christopher Pierre-Charles

Second season as an Assistant Varsity/JV Football Coach at South High School….. Will be the offensive coordinator for the JV…..Previously served as the assistant head coach of the Blake Academy Middle School football program…..Attended Wesley Chapel High School in Wesley Chapel, Florida…..Attended Crown College in St. Bonifacius, MN…..Married to Muzi, his wife, since 2013…..Enjoys taking walks along the trails of the Twin Cities when not coaching football.

Assistant Coach Evan Voelker

Second season as an Assistant Football Coach at South High School…..Played college football at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul from 2010-2014…..Played high school football in Hampton, IA from 2007-2010…..Lives in South Minneapolis with his wife, Steph, and son, Titus…..Coach Voelker and his family love living in South Minneapolis where they can explore the parks, run the various trails and be involved in various community activities.

Third season as an assistant coach at South…..Has coached Youth Football for eight years…..He started coaching in Minneapolis to give back to the community and because he loves the game…..He is very excited to help coach the young men at South and work with many of the same young men he coached in the youth leagues

Assistant Coach Jeff Buszta

Third season as an assistant coach for South Football whose responsibility is the administrative end of the sport…..Began coaching in 1980 at what is now St. John Paul II K-8 school, coaching baseball and basketball…..Assistant Coach for Girls’ Basketball and Softball at North for two seasons and baseball for eight seasons…..Served at North Athletic Director for eight years…..currently volunteers as the Minneapolis District Athletic Historian.

Lived his entire life in the Minneapolis area….. Born and raised in Northeast Minneapolis…..attended high school at Grace in Fridley (now Totino Grace)…..graduated with B.S. and M.A.T. degrees from University of Wisconsin-River Falls…..Earned Educational Specialist degree from University of St. Thomas.

Began teaching career as a substitute teacher. Worked one year at Edison and Northeast each…..Taught 26 years at North, with the second year splitting time between North and Franklin…..Currently in his fifth year at South.

Assistant Coach Tom Carpenter

First season as an Assistant Football Coach…. Been coaching basketball, baseball and football for 15 years…..It has been my dream to coach high school football since my own boys were little…..The day my oldest son said he wanted to play football was one of the happiest days of my life! He was 9 years old. (He is now 25)…..Played high school football in a small town in Ohio…..Attended The Ohio State University and played football for them for a short time…..Coached for Minneapolis Park Board for 15 years. I really have a heart for the community and for these kids…..I truly love the game of football. It is more than just, running, hitting, passing and making touchdowns. It teaches both physical and mental discipline, It teaches you how to strategize, how to be a part of a team and builds character…..I am thrilled to be a part of the South High football family!

Assistant Coach Corey Crowder

 First season as an Assistant Football Coach…..Native of Chicago who played defensive back for the University of Minnesota-Morris, where he was an All-Conference performer and UMAC Champion……Began coaching career at UMM and was a graduate assistant for Robert Morris University in Illinois…..With a focus on defensive backs and kick returners, Coach Crowder helped developed multiple All-Conference and All-American performers at both institutions……Earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management from the University of Minnesota-Morris and Master's in Higher Education Administration from Robert Morris University.
